55-Ton Cyclotron Installed
The RMSFF-supported cutting-edge proton therapy system (Proteus®ONE), including the 55-ton cyclotron and 100-ton gantry components, traveled more than 4,600 miles from Belgium to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida. On April 22, 2025, it was lifted into the Richard M. Schulze Proton Therapy Center vault as the first step—a significant milestone toward final completion.
The Foundation’s philanthropic gift of $15 million to Moffitt will help offer patients the most advanced and precise form of radiation therapy. The center will use the Proteus®ONE proton therapy system. The unit is the most advanced compact proton therapy solution on the market and offers highly targeted treatment for various cancers while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The treatment is especially effective for pediatric patients and tumors near vital organs.
