Program Guidelines

The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation makes most of its grants to U.S. tax exempt organizations that our staff independently identifies. A small percentage of grantmaking occurs through our Requests for Proposals (RFPs). The foundation does not support programs or organizations that fall outside of our focus areas.

The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation focuses its work and grants in the following geographic areas of the United States: Hennepin, Dakota and Ramsey Counties of Minnesota; Collier, Lee and Hendry Counties of Florida and Napa County of California. Currently, we do not make grants outside of these areas. Organizations receiving grants are generally tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Generally grants are made for specific programs or projects. Occasionally, grants are made for operational expenses. The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals.

Transformational Grant
We want to support ideas that think “outside the box” of conventional programs, challenge the status quo and create a change in how someone may think, work, communicate and act. We would like to support innovators who have been involved in the current way things are done and understand ideas about how to do it better. We want to support the team or leaders with the idea that will positively impact mankind.

We are interested in supporting ideas that change and benefit mankind by providing funding and strategic assistance to organizations with measurable results and data to support the transformation.

If your innovation is in its third year of operation and a thorough business plan with measurable results has been completed, please submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) to the Foundation including the following criteria:

  • Description of change or idea
  • Must be based on credible evidence, have a proven track record and utilize approaches based on best practices.
  • Must produce the stated impact.
  • Demonstrate that you have performed adequate financial planning.
  • Must be ready for implementation.

We are looking for ideas, models, processes, innovations, discoveries and programs recommended by passionate, innovative and dedicated people who want to make a transformational impact to benefit mankind in the United States. As a first year in this program, we are limiting this grant to support ideas that concentrate on our focus areas. We are not supporting political, religious or governmental ideas at this time.
